What is a Stress Echo?
A Stress Echocardiogram combines a traditional echocardiogram with a cardiac stress test to assess how well your heart functions under stress. Ultrasound images are taken before and during physical activity or medication-induced stress to evaluate heart muscle performance, valve function, and blood flow.
Colonial Heart utilizes state-of-the-art echocardiography equipment, providing high-resolution imaging for accurate assessment and early detection of heart disease.
Why It's Important
Stress Echo is particularly valuable for detecting and managing conditions such as:
- Coronary artery disease (CAD)
- Ischemic heart disease
- Heart valve disorders
- Reduced heart muscle function after heart attacks
- Exercise-induced arrhythmias
What to Expect
Baseline echocardiogram images are taken at rest first. You then undergo controlled exercise on a treadmill or stationary bike, or receive medication to simulate stress. Additional images are captured during peak stress to evaluate how your heart responds.
The test is safe and closely monitored. Afterward, Dr. Prewitt analyzes the images and results to provide a detailed report on your heart's function.
